"Life of the Mind" lecture series
This past March The Office of the President and the Office of the Faculty Senate were pleased to co-sponsor the first in a series of "Life of the Mind" Lectures. These lectures are designed to provide insight into one topic from the perspective of several Northeastern University faculty members whose research and expertise is relevant to that topic.
The topic at this first lecture was: "Living Large, Living Dangerously: The Threat of Obesity" The three Professors who participated in our first lecture were:
Professor Alexandros Makriyannis, director of the Center for Drug Discovery Bouve College of Health Sciences, on the development of novel therapeutic agents for the treatment of obesity and metabolic disorders;Doctor Jessica Blom-Hoffman, School of Health Professions, Bouve College of Health Sciences, on the design, implementation, and outcome evaluation of a fruit and vegetable promotion program conducted at four Boston Public Schools;
Professor Richard Daynard, College of Law, on the public health "dimensions" of the obesity epidemic, as well as its causes and possible cures.
We were pleased at the turnout and look forward to several more "Life of the Mind" lectures in the upcoming year.
